Son and student of the legendary Sarod Maestro, Ali Akbar Khan, Alam Khan is a dynamic composer and performer, dedicated to preserving and teaching his music to the world. Regarded as a torch bearer and virtuosic Sarod player of the Maihar Gharana, Alam is known as a genre-bending composer and innovator, blending different musical styles, cultures, and moods.
Recognized for his deeply expressive renditions of ancient ragas, Alam has toured worldwide receiving praise from fellow Hindustani performers, including his grandfather’s former pupil, Ravi Shankar. Alam has had the privilege and honor of performing alongside luminaries such as Zakir Hussain, Karsh Kale, and Bob Weir, as well as the GRAMMY-winning Tedeschi Trucks Band, gracing prestigious venues such as the Royal Jodhpur Palace, and New York’s Lincoln Center.
As a co-founder of the genre-blending group, Grand Tapestry, and a dedicated instructor at California’s Ali Akbar College of Music, Alam carries forward his family’s legacy of preserving and sharing Indian classical music with audiences around the world.
