Akshara is a dynamic music ensemble bringing together world music traditions on the rhythmic and modal foundations of Indian classical music. Along with NYC’s brightest musical talent, including two Grammy nominees, Akshara presents surprising and delightful interpretations of traditional ragas arranged for Carnatic, Hindustani, and Western classical and folk instruments.

Akshara has presented work sponsored by some of New York’s leading arts institutions and music venues, including The Rubin Museum of Art, Lyric Chamber Music Society, Cornelia St. Café, and Rockwood Music Hall. Beyond concerts, they compose original scores for classical dance productions and share their expertise through workshops and master classes. Their mission extends to making Indian classical traditions accessible to both experienced listeners and newcomers, creating bridges between cultural traditions.
